Poker Nights in The BASEMENT – CANCELLED
Under the current government restrictions, Poker has been suspended. As restrictions ease, we will look to reintroduce Poker again in the future. For more information about our safety measures, click here.
What is Poker?
The game commences with five or seven cards dealt to each player. Once received, players then attempt to form the best five-card poker hand possible. For every game, the same hierarchy of hands exists. The better hands are rare and more difficult to achieve. Individual cards are ranked from best to worst. The rank of a card often breaks the tie if two players achieve the same hand. Ace is the most valuable card. From there, it goes in descending order from King, Queen, Jack, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 to 2.
Types of Poker
There are two types of basic poker; Stud and Draw. The rules for these games are almost identical.
Stud: Each player is dealt five or seven cards, (depending on the game). Players then assess the strength of their hands and wager chips accordingly. The player who bids the most chips wins, unless someone else matches the player’s bet. In that case, the two (or more) players remaining will show their cards. The best hand wins all the chips.
Draw: Each player is dealt five cards. A round of betting then takes place. The remaining players then attempt to improve their hands by trading up to three cards, for three new cards, from the deck. If a player has an Ace, they may trade all four of their other cards.
