The Broncos case and the Cam Smith are so bloody different it is not funny! TheNRL don't have jurisdiction over off field stuff. Morally they should have been stood down - like Bird and all the other drongoes that go out and bring media damage to our game.
Smith deserved the two weeks!

2009

I thought he would have got one week. Then the NRL would have clamped down next year. Enough to make it look like the judicary were doing something but not enough to let him miss the g/f. But the 2 weeks shows that they are trying harder to make it look like they are doing their job. Suspend him for 2 weeks but let him play in the world cup???????????? hmmmm. It is a win/win....My opinion is he should not have been suspended. I thought the chicken wing was worse.

Somebody mentioned Pj Marsh. I hate him. He is the most annoying player in the NRL. He is always niggling and carrying on...Little man syndrome. The most annoying player in the comp. Followed by Steve Price.

I was always going to be 2 weeks or nothing. The charge only had enough points for a 1 week suspension but because of the loading from a prior offence it tipped him over for 2 weeks

He had the loading and carry over points from pleading guilty to another grapple tackle earlier in the year. He pleaded guilty and got away with it, this one was much worse, pleaded not guilty and he got what he deserved!

Sure it can be hard to swallow for some, that they are only doing it now instead of earlier in the season, but clamping down on the wrestling holds now is better than not at all.

It still boggles my mind how some think he shouldn't of been charged because they didn't even think he even made a grapple tackle, let alone the inconsistent judiciary rulings previous to this case. He grabbed him by the chin and YANKED his head twice while his neck was twisted, it could of snapped his neck and killled him! I would of suspended him for much more than two weeks if I had any say in it, which I don't of course.

It's not a conspiracy against the Storm, and talk that the NRL wants an all Sydney GF, that's just rubbish!

To have a Warriors-Storm GF would do wonders for our national exposure, credability and chances of expantion. There are also two Sydney teams vying for a spot in the GF, both of whom finished equal 1st on the ladder, are they not capable of making an all Sydney GF on their own merits? And who wouldn't want to see a replay of last years decider with Manly getting the equaliser or the best team in the comp of the past 4 years making it back to back and doing what only the Broncos have done in the past two decades?

Melbourne have shown they are beatable, losing to the Knights and Warriors in the past month and they should of lost to the Broncos last week, so why would they need to oust Cam Smith to try and push the Storm out anyway?

The point is, you can't let it go because of who he is, what good he's done and what games he would/could miss out on, if he's done the wrong thing, he has to be made accountable. So many people seem to be turning a blind eye to the fact it happened simply because of who he is. It would be the same if it was Lockyer or Thurston, and this decision has proven your name and your accomplishments don't make you a protected species anymore!

As I said, if it was anyone else from another club, nobody would give it this much attention, because there's no "conspiracies" there. If Paul Gallen or Steve Matai did it, they would be gone no questions asked simply because of their judiciary record, despite the fact they've never been charged with a grapple. If a Panthers player did it (should we of made it to this time of year) the only mention it would of got was the fact that it happened, no conspiracies that they don't want the Panthers to make it to the GF or kick up a stink that a Panthers player might miss the GF or world cup.

This decision will go a long way to stamping out the grapple tackle, to suspend the Australian captain right before a semi final and either the GF (should the Storm win) or the opening game of the world cup is a massive statement, one which will have every player on notice from here on in.

Guilty as charged, fair enough. However the NRL should of been doing much more earlier in the season to rid the game of this blight.
